Landmark trials to watch at EMUC26

Sessions on game-changing trials at the upcoming EMUC26 are one of the congress’s scientific centrepieces. Here are some of the trials you can look forward to at EMUC26.

On 7 November 2026, Plenary Session 6: Game Changing will examine the following noteworthy trials. Who better to answer questions and provide you with critical updates and insights to you than the key voices in the field?

 On prostate cancer (PCa)

What new standard of care did the PROTEUS trial establish for patients with high-risk localised or locally advanced prostate cancer undergoing a radical prostatectomy? While the oncology community recognises the trial as a landmark achievement, how was it received by independent clinical reviewers?

The experts will also discuss the POSEIDON trial, which has shown that adding hormonal therapy to postoperative RT in prostate cancer should be reserved for patients with a pre-radiation PSA levels exceeding 0.5 ng/mL, with the strongest benefits seen above 1.6–2.0 ng/mL. What about patients who have a PSA ≤ 0.5 ng/mL, and what are other important findings did the trial demonstrate?

The PRAISE-U project strategy maintains high accuracy in detecting clinically significant prostate cancers while drastically reducing the healthcare burden and patient anxiety compared to old mass-screening methods. What is this strategy?

If you want to know more about the breakdown of the final results of PRAISE-U and insights from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the WHO, the European Parliament, and the European Commission, join the European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day 2026 on 5 November 2026 at 15:00 CET. On kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma)

The FASTRACK II trial evaluated the use of Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) on patients with primary renal cell carcinoma who were medically inoperable or faced high surgical risks. Did the trial achieve a high local tumour control rate? How does SABR compare to alternative non-surgical interventions such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and cryoablation (CA)?

For patients with advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma who previously failed immunotherapy, did  LITESPARK-011 phase 3 trial show delayed disease progression with belzutifan + lenvatinib vs cabozantinib?

On bladder cancer

In cisplatin-ineligible patients, how did EV + pembrolizumab in the EV-303 (KEYNOTE-905) trial impact the risk of recurrence or death and overall mortality compared with surgery alone?

Which regimen in the EV-304 (KEYNOTE-B15) trial outperformed the historical gold standard (cisplatin-gemcitabine chemotherapy) for cisplatin-eligible patients?

Did the perioperative treatment demonstrated in the VOLGA trial significantly improve event-free survival as well as overall survival over cystectomy alone?

Notable trials in imaging

On 5 November 2026, three EAU Section of Urological Imaging sessions will be dedicated to practice-changing trials focused on prostate MRI, prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), and bladder cancer (screening and NMIBC). The sessions’ coverage spans from systematic review and meta-analysis of biparametric versus multiparametric MRI, the PPP3 PSMA prediction trial, to the FinnBladder 9 trial.
